Permeable Pavers: Soaking through the surface

Permeable pavement

The premise of permeable pavers is simple: Reduce runoff and pollution by allowing water to filter through to the soil and gravel beneath the pavers.

Drainage aggregate or soil (for grass to grow) is placed between pavers so water can soak into the ground rather than flow to the edge of pavement. This reduces storm water runoff, which can overwhelm sewer systems. It also helps reduce water pollution by filtering out contaminants.

Boxley Hardscapes offers a number of permeable paver options.

  • Alleyway Cobble™:  This four-piece system features a natural stone-cleft finish and rounded edge. Alleyway Cobble can be used as a permeable interlocking concrete pavement, depending on installation.

  • Aqua Flo™: A traditional permeable paver, Aqua-Flo is a simple, rectangular unit usable in many patterns including running bond, basketweave, herringbone or stack bond.

  • Enviro Flo™:  Enviro-Flo is both visually attractive and pedestrian friendly. Its rectangular shape and herringbone pattern make it a solid choice for vehicular traffic.

  • Turfblock: A square slab featuring open grids for water to permeate through, Turfblock works well for overflow parking, fire lanes, erosion control and parking lots.

Boxley is committed to improving our environment. We have participated in a parking lot improvement project for the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission and a Zagster bike share station at Roanoke’s Fallon Park.
