Permeable pavement

The premise of permeable pavers is simple: Reduce runoff and pollution by allowing water to filter through to the soil and gravel beneath the pavers.

Drainage aggregate or soil (for grass to grow) is placed between pavers so water can soak into the ground rather than flow to the edge of pavement. This reduces storm water runoff, which can overwhelm sewer systems. It also helps reduce water pollution by filtering out contaminants.

patio paver maintenance

Nature has a way of diminishing the perfect appearance of your new paver patio or walkway.

Dirt, weeds, weather and foot traffic can all take a toll on pavers. Performing regular maintenance on your blocks can extend their lifespan and keep the area looking attractive.

The Dan River Basin Association has selected Boxley Materials Corporation as a recipient of its Corporate Partner Award for the company’s involvement with various projects on the river.

The award was presented at the association’s annual membership meeting at the beginning of March.

When it comes to your backyard, the patio plays a major role in the look, feel and utility of the space. The main decision to make before installing a patio is determining what type of material you will use: pavers or concrete.

As you make this determination, here are two points to consider.

Think brick is strictly an outdoor material? Think again. With thin brick veneer products, you can easily give any room in your home a rustic or vintage look.

Most people rely on paint to create an accent wall in a home, but you can use ½” thin veneer bricks to create a truly unique look. Using this technique in a family room, den or dining room is a great way to add charm to the space.

Boxley Hardscapes is proud to announce we’re now carrying products from Casa di Sassi.

This manufacturer produces stones that will allow you to replicate the look and feel of a classic Italian village. Stones come in a variety of shapes, sizes and shades that can be used as pavers, end caps, steps and walls.

Boxley Hardscapes proudly carries Get Real Stone’s line of natural stone products.

The Architectural Series features thin veneers that are harvested in the United States and meet the Uniform Building Code’s weight specifications (15lbs./sq. foot or less). These stones are offered in two different collections – the Carolina Collection and the Highlands Collection.

When the snow begins to fall, you may think you have to wait until spring to enjoy your outdoor hardscapes.

Think again.

By adding an outdoor fireplace or fire pit to your patio, you can easily enjoy your outdoor living space all year long.

Properly preparing your hardscapes for winter can help them look great next summer and for years to come. Here are a few steps you can take to prolong the life and look of your hardscapes.

For those who have limited construction knowledge but want to build their own outdoor fireplace, the staff at Boxley Hardscapes recommends General Shale outdoor fireplaces.

These sturdy fireplaces come with step-by-step building instructions that include images. By clearly labeling each piece of material in the instructions, you know exactly which material is needed every step of the way.
